Less than ten minutes from Williamsburg's historical attractions you will find Virginia's largest winery.  The Williamsburg Winery, founded in 1985, is set among 50+ beautiful acres of vineyards and offers tours and tastings daily throughout the year.  Although Virginia boasts nearly 100 wineries, a quarter of all wine produced in the state comes from Williamsburg.

    
The Williamsburg Winery and its vintages are highly awarded having been named among "The Best Wines in the World" by the Decanter World Wine Awards of London.  The most popular wine, "The Governor's White" was awarded a Gold Medal within two weeks of its release in 1988.  Adding to their uniqueness and paying homage to the area's rich history, most of the wines made at the Williamsburg Winery feature historical references on the back of each bottle. 
 
Not only are the wines noteworthy, the Gabriel Archer Tavern has been featured in the New York Times.  Open daily for lunch, enjoy unmatched atmosphere and panoramic views of the countryside and vineyards while you dine either in the tavern or on the terrace under a canopy of wisteria (weather permitting).  Entrees at the tavern are surprisingly affordable with most under $10.00. Tours and tastings are available daily at the Winery including presentations on grape growing (Viticulture) and wine making, (Oenology) and include a visit to the barrel cellar and the production area so that you see the entire process from beginning to end.   Tours conclude with a tasting of seven on the winery's wines in an etched glass that is yours to keep.  For the wine enthusiast Reserve wine tastings in the Private Wine Cellar are available by appointment only.
 
The Williamsburg Winery is open daily with the following exceptions:  Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years Day and Grand Illumination.
